Many people worldwide are interested in trying yoga for the first time or practicing yoga, yet their schedules are packed full, and they’re left without the time?” Unless you live in a large city with close access to a yoga studio, and even if you do, going to a class can likely take up to two hours or more.
If you go three times a week, that’s six hours, whereas only 3 hours are actively spent doing yoga. Since yoga benefits are easier to achieve through a routine, and routines are more accessible when they’re more efficient and easily able to be worked into your schedule, we’ve created ways that you can set up your space to enjoy your practice at home and optimize your time — without further ado let’s learn how to do yoga at home step by step and enjoy it.
What’s all the yoga fuss about?
Yoga has become ever so popular in the past couple of years as it’s traveled from the east as an ancient practice over to the west. Now you don’t have to travel to foreign lands to experience yoga; just a quick google search of ‘yoga near me’ will suffice. Although, the two practices are quite different depending on where you practice. Yoga in the west is mainly set up as a practice for relaxing or a practice used as a workout. With both yoga for relaxation and yoga as a workout, a set of asanas (movements) are performed alongside pranayama (breath) to stretch and open the body.
Yoga in the east exists much differently and follows the 8-limbed path to stretch and open spiritual text), which combines lifestyle guidelines with the asanas. The asanas are only one part of the eight-limbed paths, and some other features include pranayama (breath), Dhyana (meditation), and Ishvarapranidhana (surrendering to the divine).

How to Enjoy Yoga at Home in 6 Easy Steps
Now, I know what you’re thinking. How am I supposed to enjoy yoga at home when I have a long list of to-do’s I can’t get my mind off? Well, that’s what I’m here for, so sit back, relax, and take some notes from a long-time home-practicing yogi such self.
1. Pick a Space
I really can’t emphasize this enough. You need your space to be comfortable at home practicing yourself. Sure, yoga might seem like a good idea in the garden or out in the back yard but out there, you may be swarmed by mosquitos, or unless you practice before 10 am and after 5 pm, it just might be too hot. For those reasons, you must pick a space that’s comfortable and practical for you. An ideal area shouldn’t be conditional on weather and should help you must choose your yoga space.
So once you’ve picked your space. Clean and decorate your yoga room or yoga space. In my experience, you’ll want to minimize clutter and maximize free space to explore different poses like legs up the wall, crow pose, and handstands, or if you plan to lay flat on the floor like a starfish, the room is your oyster. If you’re decorating a room, surround yourself with soothing and relaxing colors, plants, and inspiring photos or artwork.
3. Get Your Yoga Supplies
Whether you’re a professional yoga instructor or practicing yoga for beginners, it’s nice to have some yoga props around for support during your practice. Yoga props not only help you to reach the intermediate yoga poses, but they also help you to get cozy and give your body a little extra TLC during practice.
That being said, you don’t need to go crazy with buying all the supplies. But coming from a yoga teacher, I’d suggest having a yoga mat, yoga strap, two yoga blocks, a yoga bolster, and a yoga blanket for your home space. Another thing that you might want to consider is getting a couple of pairs of yoga clothes you love to practice yoga in. You want them to be comfortable, flattering and exciting for you to wear. Don’t be afraid to splurge on a couple of lovely sets. I’ve always lived by the yoga clothes motto ‘quality over quantity’— not only do I love everything I own, but I also feel like I’m doing the planet a favor by not contributing to the landfill full of discarded clothing. 4. Set the Mood
So it’s likely that you won’t be practicing the same kind of yoga every single day. Some days you’ll be ready to practice ashtanga yoga for energy and stimulation. On other days you’ll feel the need to relax, and daily practicing yin or restorative yoga best suits you that day. Some days you might not even want to practice at all and you might just settle for a calming meditation practice. Whatever the case may be, make an effort to set the mood.

5. Choose Your Class
So now that you’ve set the mood and have a good idea of what vibe you’re feeling for that day. It’s time to choose your class, and there are various routes you can go for at-home yoga.

Youtube is always an option, with tons of free yoga classes available for all levels and different purposes. These yoga classes online are great if you’re interested in dipping your toes in and don’t mind watching a pre-recorded style.
Apps or Yoga Platforms
Yoga Apps or platforms are also an excellent option for a paid experience. These classes are more similar to what it would be like to take a class in a yoga studio, except you are at home. I like the platforms that have a live yoga teacher; this helps me to have a more interactive experience where the teachers can give me personal tips and cues. Silence your phone, if only for 30 minutes, and aim for a time when you can get some quiet time. Your yoga practice is only a short portion of your day, carved out for you; the rest of the day, you can be in service to everything else that needs to get done but make yourself a priority, and you will be able to give so m; there than you would, I’ve been able to otherwise.
Tips for Beginners
There is no need to stress if you are beginning yoga for the first time. My most significant advice for you would be to join live classes targeted at beginners. The teachers in there will be able to give you corrections as needed, and you can ask questions. Yoga for beginners is usually a super gentle and loving space, so ‘t feel scared to get your feet wet and hop right in; you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
